My Book Expo 2013 adventure started early on a Tuesday morning at 6:00 a.m. The week in New York City would prove to be busy with visits to bookstores, publisher events and meeting booksellers from all across the country.
Having arrived bright and early, this was my chance to travel the subway for the first time and visit bookstores in Manhattan for the Binc 100 bookstore challenge. The first stop was to The Mysterious Bookshop . It was mesmerizing to enter a store that proclaims itself “devoted to all things mysterious”. Upon entering, it would be impossible for one to miss the towering floor to ceiling bookcases filled with all sorts of mysterious book finds.
Later stops along the bookstore subway tour of NYC included McNally Jackson, bookbook and Posman’s. However the greatest excitement of the day occurred on the final subway ride from the West Village back to Grand Central station. I found myself on the wrong train and in the Bronx (lucky for me a very courteous New Yorker helped with directions).
The journey was an adventure. It was amazing to travel around the city to meet bookstore staff to share Binc’s message of support to booksellers. As you travel for work or pleasure this summer, add to your adventure by visiting bookstores for the Binc Foundation. Check our progress so far this summer.
Our challenge can be your challenge!
