GreatNonprofits.org Award is based on Positive Online Reviews
We are excited to be named a Top-Rated 2014 Nonprofit, and are proud of our accomplishments this year. The Foundation is helping an ever increasing number of booksellers through some very tough personal hardships. The recent addition of homelessness prevention and funeral expenses to the financial assistance program are helping Binc reach more booksellers in a real and meaningful way.
An innovative new matching grant program was recently launched as a way to harness the goodwill of the larger book reading community. This new idea is catching on as bookstores reach out to their employees, customers and community to raise funds to help an employee in need. Binc will match the money raised by the bookstore, dollar-for-dollar, up to $2,000.
In addition to emergency assistance and matching grants, Binc is dedicated to the education and enrichment of booksellers and their families. This spring Binc awarded 53 higher education scholarships to bookstore employees and their dependents. Binc also awards professional development scholarships to the ABA’s Winter Institute, Children’s Institute, and Book Expo America to encourage booksellers to embrace new ideas and keep appraised of the industry trends. A number of booksellers not otherwise able to attend their regional IBA trade shows will be on the floor this fall thanks to a Binc scholarship.
Binc is pleased to announce that it has been honored with a prestigious 2014 Top-Rated Award by GreatNonprofits, the leading provider of user reviews about nonprofit organizations. The Top-Rated Nonprofit award was based on the large number of positive reviews that Binc received – reviews written by our volunteers, donors and clients. People have generously posted their personal experience with the Foundation to let others know of the value they find in the work Binc is doing. For example, one grant recipient wrote:
“The Book Industry Charitable Foundation has truly changed my life. I applied for funds to help with an out-of-network surgery that I needed to treat a painful condition. They not only supplied the funds I asked for, but actually bumped up the amount citing the travel expenses and such that I had not factored in. Because of them, I am pain free and was able to return to a full quality of life that I wouldn’t have been able to afford otherwise”.
While submissions for the Top-Rated Awards run through the end of October, Binc was part of the inaugural group to qualify for the year. In addition, Binc will be added to GreatNonprofits #GivingTuesday Guide—an interactive guide to top nonprofits throughout the year. Look for more information on this program near the holidays.
“Savvy donors want to see the impact of their donations more than ever,” said Perla Ni, CEO of GreatNonprofits, “People with direct experience with the Binc Foundation have voted that the organization is making a real difference.”
The reviews by volunteers, clients and donors show the on-the-ground results of Binc’s work. One review reads: “I am grateful that BINC was there to help and have since made contributions to Binc and have directed others looking for a worthy cause to do the very same”. This award is a wonderful form of recognition by the greater community of book people. We encourage you to lend your voice to the chorus, by writing a review of your experience with Binc, as a volunteer, a donor or the recipient of an assistance grant or a scholarship.
