As the year draws to an end, it is time to say good-bye to Board members who have completed their terms of office. Not only have these individuals given many hours of their time and readily shared their expertise with Binc, but they have all become very good friends along the way. These dedicated volunteers were with us through the transition from Borders Group Foundation to the Book Industry Charitable Foundation and were instrumental in all the myriad of decisions that entailed. It is not an exaggeration to say that we would not be where we are today without their hard work.
Please join the staff and current board of Binc in thanking:
Joanna Cline, is leaving the Board after serving since 2008. Joanna has been an enormous help to Binc with our marketing and communications needs. Contacts made through Joanna have enabled Binc to make great strides in getting the word out to the book industry about the programs available for booksellers. Her eagerness to share knowledge, resources and to help guide Binc has been priceless.
Meghan Holmes, began volunteering with the Foundation when still a college intern at Borders. She began by organizing an annual golf outing and moved from there to being one of our marketing experts. Always willing to share her expertise, Meghan has been instrumental in helping to shape Binc’s brand. Meghan has served on the Board of Directors since 2009, most recently as Vice-President.
George Mrkonic, The Foundation’s esteemed Chairman of many years. George was with the Foundation from the very beginning in 1996 helping to establish this very unique charity. His fondness for the Foundation and for bookselling in general was always apparent as he helped guide the Foundation through the last several transitional years. His wealth of knowledge and passion for the cause never fails to make a positive impression on everyone with whom he works.
Amy Sample, steps down after serving Binc since 2009, most recently as Secretary. Amy was active in fundraising throughout her tenure with Binc, always ready to volunteer when needed. We have enjoyed Amy’s frequent visits to the office, as she has been the person to sign the necessary paperwork that helps keep the Foundation moving forward.
Brad Shugart, has been Binc’s treasurer since 2010. He has led the Finance committee, overseeing our investments, income and expenses. With Brad’s leadership the Foundation is on a very healthy financial course to continue assisting booksellers for years to come.
We at Binc wish all of these dedicated supporters all the best in their future endeavors. Thank you all so much for sharing your time, talents and passion for books with us!
