Binc at the IBAs – Our Fall Tour



This year as Pam, Kit and Penny travel across the country to seven of the regional Independent Bookseller Association Trade Shows, we will be adding fundraising events and education sessions to our repertoire. Three organizations have offered to host a fundraiser to raise funds to assist their fellow booksellers, and one other has scheduled a Binc education session. These regional IBA events have proven to be our best method for meeting and having meaningful conversations with booksellers across the country.

In New Orleans, the Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance will be our first test of Trivia for Cheaters. The dress rehearsal last month in Ann Arbor was great fun and we are ready to take this show on the road. We trust that the SIBA members will put their own spin on the event. If you plan to be at SIBA13, get a team together and join the trivia challenge! Or stop in to watch and cheer on the teams, Thursday, September 19th at 5:00pm. There will even be a surprise appearance of a true music legend! (Who last performed as drummer of The Doors in NOLA in 1970?)

The New Atlantic Independent Booksellers Association will be meeting in Somerset, NJ and are challenging their members to donate to Binc. NAIBA has generously offered to match all donations received during the three day event! If you plan to be at the NAIBA event, look for our donation stations and give generously to help booksellers in need. NAIBA’s Executive Director, Eileen Dengler says “The goal is $1,500 and I’m confident that our generous attendees will drop their bills into the collection jar that will help one other down the road.”

Heartland Fall Forum, the joint fall conference for the Great Lakes and Midwest Independent Booksellers Associations will once again donate the proceeds from their silent auction to Binc. Last year this proved to be one high energy event and brought in more than $3,500 to benefit the programs of Binc. If you will be in Chicago for this event, stop by to say hello and don’t forget to bid early and often!

At the Mountains and Plains Independent Booksellers Association event in Denver, Binc will be presenting a short overview of the Foundation and the assistance they offer to bookstore employees.

In addition to the events listed above, Binc will be exhibiting at the Southern California and Northern California Independent Booksellers Association and the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association trade shows.
