For over a decade Binc Scholarships have made it possible for booksellers and their family members to pursue higher education goals without the worry of slipping into debt. Over 550 students have received more than $1.1 million in scholarships from Binc helping them to become doctors, lawyers, teachers, writers and business owners. From now until February 27, 2015 Binc is accepting applications to the 2015 Scholarship Program. This year Binc will offer two scholarships at the $10,000 level and up to 50 $3,500 scholarships, as well as a new $5,000 Tribute Scholarship, dedicated to Karl Pohrt, together totaling $200,000.

Binc Executive Director, Pam French, is looking forward to getting the scholarship program started, saying, “Each year it is exciting to hear how scholarship winners are planning to use their education. Their stories are inspiring and goals admirable. I’m glad the Foundation can help so many achieve their dreams.”

Scholarship Guidelines

Current bookstore employees/owners and their dependents as well as former Borders Group employees and their dependents that have a minimum of one year of continuous employment at a bookstore are eligible to apply. The bookstore must have a bricks and mortar retail presence in the U.S. and generate a substantial portion of the store’s revenue from the sale of books. Eligible employees must be employed directly by the bookstore. Awards may be used for tuition, fees, books, supplies and room and board to any accredited post-secondary institution.

Scholarship America (Scholarship Management Services) will conduct the 2015 scholarship program. The evaluation process will utilize selection criteria including financial need, prior academic achievement and leadership capabilities (including participation in school and community activities) as well as work experience, a statement of career and educational goals and objectives, and unusual personal or family circumstances.

    1. Hello Kimberly, thanks for your question. The mission of the Binc Foundation was created for and focuses only on booksellers.:) If that ever changes we’ll let you know. Thanks, Penny

  1. We have a business that is in our homes and bring in customers to consult on their needs. We source out products and then present them to educators. Would we qualify?

    Thanks and Blessings!
