Various events are attended throughout the year as a way for Binc to increase awareness of the Foundation, raise funds and be involved with the community. Everyone knows that the best events are the ones with the most participation, and with this in mind we want to make it easier for you to get involved! Below is information about upcoming and annual book industry events that would benefit from your involvement.

BOOK EXPO AMERICA – BEA

The Binc staff and board members will be attending BEA 2015 from Wednesday, May 27 to Friday, May 29. We’ll be stationed in the booksellers lounge again this year, thanks to ABA, and will be announcing the 2015 Higher Education Scholarship winners. More information to come, check back for updates! INDEPENDENT BOOKSTORE DAY

On Saturday, May 2, 2015 the first national Independent Bookstore Day will be held. After the success of California Bookstore Day last year, the event is expanding to include more than 400 bookstores across the US with the support of the regional bookseller associations and the ABA.

The purpose of this national event is to celebrate local bookstores and the things only they can offer to the community. There will be author visits, food, drink, special merchandise, and lots of fun. Sixteen exclusive books and book related items will be offered including a Chris Ware print, a signed Margaret Atwood stencil, a literary map of the seas, a signed Captain Underpants print and much more.

GREAT AMERICAN BARGAIN BOOK SHOW -GABBS

GABBS 2015Kit will be attending GABBS from March 12 – 14 in Atlanta, GA. On Saturday Kit will be a featured speaker at the Reviving the Resource Roundtable Breakfast from 8 – 10 am. Enjoy continental breakfast while veteran booksellers and industry professionals rotate from table to table each discussing a variety of topics relevant to you.  From “Working with Writers” to “Building Better Booksellers” to “Edelweiss, Your Best Book Friend” to “Simple Solutions for Small Budgets”, “Social Networking”, and more.

ABA Winter Institute, February 8 – 11, 2015 in Asheville, NC

Pam is excited to attend the 10th anniversary of the ABA’s Winter Institute.  She will be in the Consultation Station on Tuesday, February 10th from 10am to 4pm to answer questions about Binc and our programs. Valerie Welborne will there on Wednesday, February 11th from 10am – noon. If you would like to set up an appointment to meet with Pam or Val please contact Pam directly at pam@bincfoundation.org

Third Anniversary Holiday Open House and Volunteer Thank You

For those in the Ann Arbor area, please join us on Wednesday, December 3rd from 5 – 8 pm for an open house at Wolverine State Brewing Company to celebrate another successful year at the Foundation.

2014 Fall IBA Meetings & Tradeshow Roundup

We have returned from a  busy, greatly entertaining and amazingly productive IBA Discovery Show tour. We want to say thank you to everyone that stopped by to say hello and learn more about Binc.  We also want to say thanks to those that dropped off cell phones for our phone drive.  We are counting up the number of phones we received and will be notifying the winners of the gift cards over the next few days.

We hope everyone enjoyed the Fall Shows as much as we did and we look forward to next year. We’ll see you all again at Winter Institute in February 2015!
